The Nissan Qashqai e-POWER has added a Guinness World Records title to its growing list of achievements after completing a remarkable long-distance journey on a single tank of fuel. Covering more than 1,300 kilometres across Tasmania without refuelling, the crossover recorded an average fuel consumption of just 4.5 litres per 100 km under everyday driving conditions.
Unlike conventional hybrids, Nissan's e-POWER system uses a petrol engine solely to generate electricity, while the wheels are driven entirely by an electric motor, delivering an EV-like driving experience without the need for external charging. The record reinforces the technology's real-world capability across highways, mountain roads and urban routes.
Why it matters: Rather than focusing solely on electrification, Nissan is demonstrating that highly efficient hybrid technologies can provide an immediate pathway to lower emissions and extended driving range while charging infrastructure continues to expand globally.
