Road Safety Becomes a Corporate Metric

Road safety is entering a new corporate era, where safety performance is measured not only by products, but by how organisations plan, monitor and manage their wider road-safety footprint.

Road Safety Becomes a Corporate Metric

The FIA has expanded its Road Safety Index from three to five stars, raising the benchmark for organisations seeking to demonstrate measurable road-safety performance. The enhanced framework adds planning, safety-performance monitoring, and safety-culture management across supply chains and products or services.

Honda has become the first organisation to achieve the new five-star rating in the Products/Services category. The assessment recognised its safety targets, governance, measurement of its global road-safety footprint and plans for continued improvement.

The significance extends beyond the recognition itself. By treating road safety like a measurable corporate footprint, the FIA is pushing organisations to move from broad commitments towards defined targets, continuous monitoring and accountable action across their value chains.

For the commercial-vehicle ecosystem, this could strengthen the case for viewing safety as a business performance issue, encompassing vehicle development, supply chains, operations, driver behaviour and customer use.

Why It Matters

The next evolution of road safety may not be judged solely by how safe a vehicle is, but by how systematically an organisation manages its responsibility for safer mobility.
